Report

In the context of the three-day conference Business Information Systems (BIS) 2012 in Vilnius (Lithuania), the 4th workshop on Enterprise Systems in Higher Education (ESHE) took place on 21st Mai 2012. The focus of this workshop was on innovative concepts for learning environments in curricular and in technical respect. Scientists and practicioners had the opportunity to deal with chances and challenges concerning training and further education with information systems. 

The workshop was organized and implemented in cooperation with the MRCC. It included lectures from the fields of Serious Games, ERP-based case studies and interactive learning through role plays. Furthermore, one lecture focused on cloud-based learning platforms.

All topics dealth with in the course of these lectures are results from the field of curricular accompanying research that is conducted at the SAP University Competence Centers (UCC). At the same time, those topics influence the constant development of the UCC training opportunities. One concrete and relevant example for the expansion of the UCC training opportunities is the current research project "Construction of an ERP learning platform for African countries (Sub-Sahara), which is currently offered by the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg in cooperation with SAP and Deutsche Entwicklungsgesellschaft (DEG).

Enterprise Systems, such as ERP-Systems for example, are an important part of the IT-infrastructure of today’s enterprises worldwide. Hence, the integration of these systems plays an important role in the area of educational environments. Because of their high potential of illustration, visualization and simulation of business and decision-making processes for learners, Enterprise Systems have a high significance for future pedagogic innovation within higher education. The primary challenge is to tap this potential in the education of Enterprise Systems. Actually there are different approaches (e.g. case studies) to train students in these systems. Furthermore, some technical solutions to support students behaviour also exist.

The 4th Workshop of Enterprise Systems in Higher Education (ESHE12) aims in his continuation at innovative concepts in the field of the creation of new and adequate learning environments and also at possible technical solutions, which offer technology-enhanced learning environments for teachers and learners. The main objective of the workshop is to bring researchers and practitioners together to explore the issues and challenges related to Enterprise Systems in higher education.

Submission

Long papers: max. 12 pages

Work-in-progress reports: max. 6 pages

Papers must be submitted in PDF format according to Springer LNBIP template available from here.

The authors should include a 100-word abstract at the beginning of the paper, which clearly presents the achievement or contribution of the paper. Furthermore 4-7 keywords should describe the content of the submission.

Workshop format

Papers approved for presentation at ESHE 2012 will be published in BIS 2012 workshop post-conference proceedings, as a volume in Springer's Lecture Notes in Business Information Processing (LNBIP) series. BIS 2012 Workshops proceedings will be distributed to BIS 2012 participants in October 2012 by regular mail.
