The University of Cape Town (UCT) is South Africa's oldest university, and is one of Africa's leading teaching and research institutions. World university rankings such as Times Higher Education (THE) continue to rank UCT as the only university in Africa in the top 200. The university’s strong performance is the direct result of the productivity and impact of UCT’s research, the university’s ability to attract research grants, the quality of its staffing, the international diversity of its staff and students, and the strong perceptions of the quality of its graduates by the international community.
The ESEFA project partnership is co-hosted by two departments at the University of Pretoria, the Department of Informatics and the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering. The Department of Informatics is based in the Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology (EBIT) as of January 2000, but is also one of the three 'home' departments of the formally constituted School of Information Technology.
