On 5 November 2013, a business breakfast at the Waterfront in Cape Town brought together about 30 attendees from various sectors and countries celebrating the ESEFA (Enterprise Systems Education for Africa) project launch. The meeting hosted by the Information Systems Department of the University of Cape Town (UCT) attracted academics as well as representatives of the economy, the German consulate and the African press.

After the welcome address by Professor Don Ross, Dean of the Faculty of Commerce at the UCT, Professor Lisa Seymour, Head of the Information Systems Department at the UCT and De Wet Naudé, SAP University Alliances Manager in South Africa, continued with a presentation of the ESEFA project portraying its major cornerstones and objectives which can be summarized as follows:

Together with the University of Cape Town, SAP University Alliances and the Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg have started a pioneering project – with the aim to establish an on-demand Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) teaching and learning platform for sub-Saharan Africa.

The project which is scheduled to cover a period of three years includes the development of the curriculum as well as the provision of a technical solution for its implementation with the long-term objective of establishing an African university community to deliver ERP education courses within the sub-Saharan region.

The financing of the project is provided by the DEG (Deutsche Investitions- und Entwicklungsgesellschaft mbH) and the SAP AG.

This event was a successful start – not only for the project team but for all participants and guests who afterwards took the opportunity to engage in an intensive exchange of ideas. The ESEFA kick-off meeting received considerable press coverage and several African news websites published corresponding reports and articles that are available at:
