The Addis Ababa University

The Addis Ababa University (AAU) is the oldest and the largest higher learning and research institution in Ethiopia. Since its inception in 1950, the AAU takes a lead in teaching-learning, research and community services.

At present, 48,673 students are enrolled at the AAU. The University runs 70 undergraduate and 293 graduate programs as well as various specializations in Health Sciences. Its premises comprise 14 campuses.

To cope with fast changing national and international educational processes the AAU has been undertaking diverse reform initiatives. Currently, the university has 10 colleges, 4 institutes for teaching and research and 6 further institutes that are primarily concerned with research issues.

In March 2015 the AAU joined the ESEFA programme. The project implementation on-site is hosted by the IT Doctoral Programme (ITDP), which is a consortium of IT related Departments and Schools. More than 70 PhD students are currently doing their research in various fields, such as Information Systems, Software Engineering, Information Retrieval or Language Technology.

Being part of the consortium each of the Departments and Schools runs its own training programmes both at BSc and MSc level. Within these programmes general IT courses are also provided for undergraduate students in other Departments, i.e. in the Management, Accounting or Economics Department.

As an ESEFA-Partner and member of the SAP University Alliances Programme the AAU has the opportunity to get students acquainted with Enterprise Systems Fundamentals by giving them hands-on experience on an SAP system. The unique ESEFA curricula and further ES research activities will give students a comprehensive understanding of business processes and ES software applications preparing them for future job positions in complex working environments.
