The Strathmore University looks back on a long tradition in teaching business, management, accountancy and IT courses maintaining numerous links with industry to ensure the curricula is relevant to the current market needs and trends.

Strathmore provides state-of-the-art facilities endeavouring to attain the best possible environment for learning and teaching as well as for the development of its staff members. It has made steady progress over the years since 1961, as an A-level college with only a handful of students, to the present day, with some 5,000 students and offering 6 post-graduate courses, 14 undergraduate courses, 3 diploma courses and 3 certificate courses.

The various departments in Strathmore have also shown remarkable service to society by linking students with industry through internships, placement services, community outreach programs and career development. The pioneer School of Accountancy (1966) has trained a large majority of the current accountant’s population in the country. The Faculty of Information Technology has spearheaded the technological transformation in Kenya since its inception in 1991. Strathmore Business School, which was established in March 2005, has already achieved a high international reputation and recognition, forging partnerships and collaborations with the major global business schools such as Harvard (US) and IESE (Spain) as well as other continental centres in Africa such as Stellenbosch University (SA), University of Pretoria (SA), University of the Witwatersrand - Wits Business School (SA) and Lagos Business School (Nigeria).

@iLabAfrica, the new ICT Research and Innovation Centre, was established in 2011 under the Fac­ulty of Information Technology. It aims to promote research, innovation and entrepreneurship in ICT for Development (ICT4D) towards the attainment of the UNDP Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and Kenya’s Vision 2030. In its short life, @iLabAfrica has been involved in a number of research grants, contract projects, collaborations and partnerships with the leading international and local industry players. @iBizAfrica is the Business Incubator managed by @iLabAfrica and set up to promote and support students with business propositions that have the potential to be commercially viable. The newly created School of Law (2011) has also made a mark for the quality of its programmes and its early introduction of specialised centres for Intellectual Property and Dispute Resolution.
